At this historic hotel, on the elegant Royal Terrace in Edinburgh, we had a wonderful opportunity to enhance some impressive interior spaces for InterContinental Hotels Group. We balanced modernity and tradition and the design features a variety of Celtic themes, including the lounge bar, with thistle motifs and highland wall linings; the restaurant, drawing inspiration from Edinburgh’s Royal Botanic Garden; and the cigar lounge, designed around an alfresco ‘cold fire’. In the reception area, a leather-lined desk and original feature fireplace create a welcoming sense of warmth and conviviality – a fitting first impression for visitors to this grand establishment.
